If you have looked into tiny home or camper / RV living, you probably already know various states, counties, and municipalities have enacted various laws to discourage or eliminate the minimalist lifestyle. What you might not know is the federal government is getting in on the insanity. Let me introduce you to their latest weapon: FR–5877–P–01 Manufactured Home Procedural and Enforcement Regulations; Revision of Exemption for Recreational Vehicles
This current attack seems focused on Recreational Vehicles. FR–5877–P–01 defines these the recreational vehicle as “a factory build vehicular structure, not certified as a manufactured home, designed only for recreational use and not as a primary residence or for permanent occupancy.”
It seems the redefinition is aimed at amending the current exemption for recreational vehicles making it unlawful to use one as your primary residence. When we consider how many people choose RV living over a the maze of regulations surrounding tiny houses, FR–5877–P–01 seems a much broader attack than just on RV living. It seems to be a further attack on tiny homes and minimalist lifestyles in general.
